e are four students in the inaugural class of the Erasmus Mundus Master´´ of Science in Geospatial Technologies. The first six months of the master´s are spent developing skills and theorical background in geospatial technology. Specifically, at the Universitat Jaume I in Spain, where we have chosen to spend this semester, the curriculum is focused on informatics, new media and geo-information basics. We have had the joy of using gvSIG, an open source GIS software, for several of our projects. In the wee hours of the morning, scrambling to complete a GIS assignment, we discovered that at a certain level of sleep deprivation, the lyrics to Will Smith´s song "Gettin´ Jiggy With It" could take on an entirely new meaning. Now, "Gettin´ Siggy With It" seems an entirely apt reference to our own lives, admittedly dorky, as we pursue our degree.
